Some great options include roasted potatoes, pan-fried asparagus, or grilled vegetables. You could also try serving the burgers with rice or quinoa, or even on a bed of fresh salad greens.

Can YOu Make Salmon Burgers with Canned Salmon?
If you are looking for a quick and easy way to make grilled salmon burgers, canned salmon can be a great option. All you need to do is drain the liquid from the can and proceed with the recipe. The results may not be as flavorful and the texture may not be as pleasant as if fresh salmon is used, but it still turns out great.
I actually used canned salmon every time because it's cheaper and I always have it on hand for when I need a quick meal!
Can You Make Salmon Burgers with Salmon Fillets?
You can absolutely use fresh salmon to make salmon burgers. Cut your salmon (about 650 grams) into large chunks and add it to the bowl of a food processor after mincing the garlic and ginger, along with the chives, chili powder, soy sauce, sesame oil and salt. Follow the recipe as usual from that point.
Since you are starting with raw fish, if you'd like to ensure the patties are fully cooked, check with a meat thermometer and the internal temperature should be 130°F when removed from the grill. The internal temperature will continue to rise for a few minutes after the burgers are removed and the burgers won't be overcooked and dry.
Do I Need a Grill?
While making grilled salmon burgers on a stovetop is possible, many people find that using a grill gives them the best results. You can use a gas grill, charcoal grill or electric grill. A grill allows for even cooking of the burgers and gives them a nice char flavor. If you have access to a grill, I would recommend using it to make your salmon burgers.
However, if you have a grill pan or even a regular cast iron pan, using those on the stovetop will do as well!
How to Keep Salmon BUrgers from Sticking
One of the biggest challenges with making grilled salmon burgers is ensuring that they don't stick to the grill. This can be a particular challenge if your grill isn't very clean, as salmon burgers have a tendency to stick to anything that's even remotely gritty. Here are a few tips for avoiding this:
- Make sure your grill grate is nice and clean before you start cooking. Any leftover grease or charred bits will only make it more likely for your salmon burgers to stick.
- If possible, use a non-stick cooking spray (use a healthy one with 100% avocado or olive oil) to coat the grill grates before cooking. This will help keep the burgers from sticking.
- Cook the salmon burgers over medium heat instead of high heat. This will help prevent them from burning or sticking.
- Allow the grill to become hot before placing the burgers on and don't flip them too early! Cook them for 5 minutes on the first side before flipping.
Toppings Ideas for Grilled Salmon Burgers
An array of toppings can be added to grilled salmon burgers for extra flavor and texture. Crispy bacon, caramelized onions, and sliced avocado add a smoky and sweet element to the dish. For a tangy bite, try adding pickles or sprouts. And don't forget lettuce pieces and fresh tomato slices.
Fresh herbs are a great addition as well. You could use cilantro, parsley or more fresh chives.
In addition to toppings, there are many delicious sauces and dips that can be used to complement grilled salmon burgers. A simple drizzle of tahini or miso paste adds creaminess, while sriracha mayo is perfect for adding spice and richness. A garlic aioli goes great with this particular burger, as well as a dollop of plain yogurt or sour cream.
Whether you prefer a tangy or smoky sauce, there are plenty of options that will take your grilled salmon burgers to the next level.
