    About Errika

This blog is a personal blog written and edited by myself (Errika Horner). For questions about this blog, please contact Errika at info@thehomeintent.com.

My name is Errika (yes, a very unique spelling!). I'm the wife of wonderful man who is my best friend and makes me laugh every day! After years of yearning for a child, we became the parents of an energetic and happy little girl.

I grew up in Alberta, Canada and live there currently. I have also lived on the east coast of Canada while on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and on the west coast in Vancouver, BC while my husband attended school at BCIT. Canada is a gorgeous country from coast to coast!

Although I've always been a city girl, my husband has exposed me to life in the country and I find myself drawn to that lifestyle. He grew up on an acreage outside a small town and his parents still live there. I've been there many times and experienced the peace and beauty of living with nature all around me! We do what we can to escape the city by hiking and camping, but it is our dream and goal to own a large acreage and use the land to sustain ourselves.

    My Greatest Interests

Ever since I can remember, I've wanted to be a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. I was taught from a young age that motherhood is a divine calling and there is no better way to have an influence on the world than to help shape the next generation. I also find homemaking so fulfilling because I can create an environment where my family will flourish as a whole and as individuals. Of course, it's a process and I'm always striving to improve!

I love all things health!! But believe it or not, I didn't always... You may have heard me say things like, "Just enjoy your life and eat the ice cream!!", believing that you couldn't enjoy life without eating unhealthy foods. My infertility was the push I needed to actually WANT to be more healthy. There have been many gradual changes along the way and now I'm at a place where I feel great and I even enjoy a guilt-free treat on the daily! I also exercise daily for about 30 minutes in the morning (took me a LONG time to get here, let me tell you!). Listening to health and wellness related podcasts is something I do as I'm washing the dishes or folding laundry.

Only recently have I taken an interest in minimalistic type living and it has made a huge impact on our home and my life! I'm not a "minimalist" by many people's standards, I'm just learning to be intentional in every way.

    Interesting Facts

Teeth have always been interesting to me, so I chose to become a dental assistant. I worked for 5 years, mostly in endodontic offices (root canal specialist) and really enjoyed it. But I knew it wouldn't be long term, since I always dreamed of being home once I had children.

I've never broken a bone or been in a car accident. (Knock on wood...)

As a child, my siblings and I had fish and hamsters for pets. One of our goldfish, "Fire", lived for 10 YEARS, despite being sick for most of his life. What an inspiration. Little did we know that one of our hamsters was pregnant when we got her, so about a week after bringing her home, I awoke to see 9 little pink sausages all smooshed under a pile of wood shavings. We got to see them grow and then give them away. What a neat experience that was!

Many people told me I would lose a lot of hair after giving birth, but I didn't lose any more than I usually do. No complaints there!

I don't put any sweetener in my oatmeal. Just blueberries and cinnamon and my husband thinks I'm absolutely insane.

I was a missionary on the east coast of Canada for 18 months and got to see many amazing places. My favorite, though, was Prince Edward Island. The red sand, the ocean waves, the ice cream... you've got to go, just make sure it's in the summer. Or you might find yourself under 18 feet of snow.

    Thanks for coming by!
